The Quiet Man Bridge

The Quiet Man Bridge

A must-see if you are a John Wayne or Maureen O'Hara fan. This is the stone bridge made famous by the 1952 film "The Quiet Man" directed by John Ford. The green fields, hills and lakes in this part of rural County Galway still evoke a picture of Ireland in simpler times, and you can almost imaging a horse and cart coming over the bridge today.

The Quiet Man Bridge is located just off the N59, about 34km (40 minutes by car) north west of Galway city. If travelling from Galway city, take the N59 north. Pass through Moycullen and Oughterard. About 7km past Oughterard there is a left turn - take it. The Quiet Man Bridge is within sight and is only 200m from the junction.

The bridge and general area is very picturesque and it's worth taking some photographs here.
